My deflection backfired on me today. Seamus asked could he have a bird for the umpteenth time this year and instead of the usual, we''ll see, I decided to put it back on Brendan and to my amazement he said "why not". You could have floored me. He was adamant not long ago that not another animal was going to step foot into this house(I guess he forgot to mention wing). So anyway we popped down to the petstop(yes that's it's name not a misspelling) and they only had four young budgies left. Out of the four we unanimously agreed on a pretty little aqua one. It was bossing the other budgies a bit and someone made the comment that it was a female (a man said that of course) turned out he was right and so the status quo has balanced a little in our house with four females and five males. One female cat, dog, bird and me. Still no advantage in any form of battle of the sexes but still makes me fell not so outnumbered, lol. The owner of the store said because she was a girl she would be a biter (that was after she chomped on his finger after he tried to shove her head first into a milk carton of which I told him I would probably bite him to if he tried to do that to me too) but since she has been home she has been a delightful natured little thing, happy to perch on our fingers and doesn't seem to mind being petted.

Today I made...
punches stampin'up and fiskars
(can you tell I recently went to a stampin'up party?)
And these
The recipe can be found here under chewy Anzacs. Thanks Kathryn for the link, a wonderful place to find good recipes. they are meant to be for the footy tomorrow but half of them are gone already. The taste testers in my house have given them the big thumbs up. I loved my day pottering around at home. Cleaned out the woodheater, made soup, cooked a roast, did some laundry and generally indulged in domestic bliss. House still looks like a bomb hit it but at least it smells like yummy food, we have clean clothes to wear and it is deliciously warm.

Night light
My new favourite range of papers. the colour looks a little blah here but they are gorgeous IRL. as soon as I spotted the limey greens, teal blues and navy and red I just knew I had to have it. At the time I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it but when I took this photo of Seamus the other night in his own room for the first time I knew it would fit the theme perfectly. He definitely is not scared of monsters under his bed and has embraced the whole being in a room alone thing really well. I guess you get that when you have spent your whole life sharing a room with a snorer. He loves the silence. I guess the photo is a tad dark for the rest of the papers but I didn't really care, it was all about the theme. after photographing this I decided to add a small green button on the corner of the journaling block and moved the monster down a little. It's a girl prerogative to change her mind, lol.
the layout is not really crooked, just my photography

Much ado about nothing
Pretty much summarises our life lately, lots happening but not much happening. Just the normal run of the mill stuff that I'm sure most families do. It is also the name of the Shakespeare play my friend Kathryn her son Greg and I went to on Sunday. It was held in the local caves and it is a great atmospheric place to hold something like this. They do an annual Christmas carols there too which I keep promising myself I'll go to. It was a nice light hearted little play with a bit of deceit, betrayal and romance. Very entertaining.
A few shots from the play

We also celebrated Joseph's 13the birthday which now means I share a hose with three teenage boys.

I tried to take some photos of my reshuffled nook but because it is so narrow and my camera lens is not that wide it was really hard so I have just put one end of my new desk. the computer sits up the other end which I am loving. I have so much more floor space now.

A really old layout I did a few years ago for a stamping class using different techniques such as resist stamping and masking.

A more recent one with an old photo using Jack's world PP. I love this shot from when the two younger boys were little. we were living in Yambuk then and it was a heavenly place to raise young boys. We had the ocean one side of us a lake the other and a few acres around us with lots of trees and a huge house. I still miss it.

another old/new layout. I started this one around three or so years ago. It was a kit from Aussie scrap source but I go t sick of rubbing on the quote so ditched it in the finish off basket for a few years. When I redid my nook I decided to try and get rid of some UFOs and this was one of them. It was probably for the best to leave it anyway as I added a few things that I wouldn't have a few years back.

a gift a made last night for Joseph's teacher as a thank you for taking the four KIC(kids in charge/junior school council)kids up to the young leader's forum in Adelaide, hope she likes it.

the kit was bought from here . I used basic Grey Urban prairie papers.

Little Xavier. From a layout I took a sketch off from, hmmmm, actualy I can't remember from where but I loved the way it was set out and thought I'd use it. It's a little wonky sorry, it sat on a shelf in my lounge for awhile and got a little bent. Figured it would flatten once it was put in an album. Pattern paper from Kaisercraft

Some photos
Still finding it hard to get back into the blogging groove. Maybe when the boys are back at school and the house is completely back to normal after our reshuffle. any way thought I would just share a few photos from the last few weeks. Starting with young Xavier. He has always been baby Xave to me but now I guess he is growing past that stage and has reached toddler hood. He is just the sweetest. I have recently heard the lovely news that one of my nieces and her husband are expecting their first child (I think she is around 12 to 13 weeks) so their will be babies around for quite a while yet. One of my nephews was recently engaged too.
The moon, obvious I guess,lol.
Joseph at the SAPSASA tryouts, he has made it into the team to go to Adelaide next month. He also received best on field in Saturday's match and was pretty excited even though the team took a hiding.

Easter Saturday saw us at the Marks' house for Kathryn's birthday. We had already had a lovely girls night the Friday before at her house. Love a party that keeps going.
Happy Birthday Kathryn.

Total awesomness
Brings back teenage memories of being totally infatuated with 'The Boss'
Still love this song and I'm not ashamed it's on my playlist, quality music never goes out of style.
Haven't been blogging a lot lately, waiting for the groove to come back, hope it will. This Easter's project is an enormous house reshuffle including my scrap room so when it is finally all over I will share(depending on how it looks of course, lol)
Hope Easter bunny comes
Cheers,
Sue.

Oh darn, just realised that I can't embed the clip only the URL, you will just have to go and look for yourself, it's so worth it.

Haven't done this for a while.
Uploaded some of the creative stuff I 've been doing that is.
nothing too exciting.
Card for one of my big bros birthday.
This is a piece of an addiction I did to a layout from a swap I was involved in. Didn't want to post the whole layout on here because I'm not sure how the owner would feel about having her kiddos on someone elses blog so only a little peek.
Aaaah, dang, the pictures have come out the wrong way again. This is my finished layout. the swap was organised by Kim Archer. We were divided into groups of five or six women from all over Australia. Each person started by putting together a background piece with a bit of accent (mine was the strip of black PP down the right hand side with the half circle cut out of it) we then posted it to the next person and so on until everyone had added a little to it. There was a form we filled out first with reference to what our colour preferences were and the story behind the photos etc . Most of our group were happy for us to just go for it and add whatever we wanted, except for the colour purple which I thought was funny that four out of five women didn't like it(I was one of them) I adore what was done with my photos and background.
Some of the close up s of the elements added to my layout.
The finished result, isn't it gorgeous, thank you to all the girls who participated

A simple layout I did a few weeks ago, just noticed that the top right star has come off, you can see a little of where the glue was, lol.
Brendy and I. bit of stamping, bit of bling.
these two are a couple of the layouts I made for the bushfire appeal. they look kinda funny without photos but I'm hoping the new home they go to will remedy that. I made a few more than this but was too lazy to photograph them before I posted them off.

The little journaling block came from here .Kim is selling the set to raise money for the bushfire appeal, aren't they cute. I'm starting to like little downloadable elements like this.

Tagged
I've been tagged by the extraordinarily talented TinaCockburn. Here's what I had to do
-Take a picture of yourself right now. No primping or preparing. Just snap a picture.
-Load the picture onto your blog.
-Tag three people to play. Remember, if you are tagged, we will all be heading to your blog to see if you played along.

so here it is, the shot, freckles, wrinkles and a bit of lunch in my tooth an' all. and I so stuck to the rules, didn't even check in the mirror first (hence the tiny bit of greenery in my tooth, lol) Oh, ok, I did cheat just a little. Paddy took the photo instead of me. Only because my slr can be a little heavy to hold one handed and my P&S isn't back yet. I hate the way my top lip dissapears when I smile in a certain way, I promise it is there. I will have to practice smiling in the mirror with out curling it under(ok, that's a joke, as if I could ever be bothered)
OK. so the grand prize(ha ha) goes to...........
all super talented girls that I have the honour of calling friends.

I'm baaaack
there has been no blogging in this household for the last week or so, Mummas not been well. I seldom get sick and when I do it usually only lasts a day or two, not this time, 8 days now, for 8 days and 8 very looong night I have been coughing my innards up, ewww, sorry about that mental picture. I've just about had enough but hopeful I think I may be coming good. I didn't even turn the computer on for a couple of days, must be just about a record.
we had a fab time at the folkie the weekend before last, will fill in more about that next post. Just thought I would include a few picies from over the last month.
Oh and if I haven't left a comment on your blog and I normaly do it's bloggers fault not mine, I have been having issues with the comment part and I'm not the only one, yep Shaz, I have been trying on yours, kathryns and donna's too, coco's worked, I think anyway. Seamus' $2.00 of fun, we were at Trev's, our local junk shop, the other day when Seamus spotted these glasses and some drac teeth. His trade off for being allowed to buy the was me taking photos of him (of course)and as you can expect from something so cheap the arm of the glasses broke before he even had time to put them on his face, he still had fun with them though and I got to take my slightly creepy photos.

not quite Twilght!!!
Now we know why vampires seldom smile...there teeth fall out if they do.
A very noisy but still cute(I think, or is it just the subject) photo of Xavier playing with the bubbles from the bubblegun we bought him.
Our grotty little Princess, so much for a nice clean girly dog, I guess the male influence is just to strong in this house. check out those dirty ears, not sure what it was on them.
A shot of the robe beach taken on my point and shoot(which died on that day which is why these never made it to the blog before this) on Australia day.
the road to robe, P&S again.

this is from Jackos camera, his shots somehow ended up on my computer. It's his aborable friend Sarah on folkie weekend, such a cool young woman. They used the self timer for this. This is not long after she had dragged him on an eight km run down the town, around Griffith Island and back again, ahh to be so young and fit again.

The tale of a turnip and the cat who fell in love with it.
OK, I start at the beginning, this weekend we are off to Port Fairy to the annual folk festival held there. It's called a folk festival but the mix of music is quite eclectic and caters for almost every one. any way although we haven't been in the last couple of years before that we never missed a weekend and it is a usual tradition to make a huge pot of soup before we go so that living is simple, fast and nutritious. You know the sort of soup that has every thing, loads and loads of veggies, huge quantities of soup mix containing things like lentils, split peas etc and a couple of lamb shanks thrown in for extra protein and flavour. The sort of soup that you could survive and entire winter on one bowl. The family love it and we can race in heat up a bowl and move on to the next concert. Any way one of the things that I put in this soupy concoction is usually a turnip. I had the bag of veggies, some from the garden, some from the green grocer sitting on the floor of the kitchen (yes Daisy was outside, remember the carrot stealing incident) ready for me to start grating the next morning. The turnip was on top and must have rolled out slightly. I turned around and here is Chocolate our old and quite peculiar cat getting all lovey with it (no not like that, get your mind out of the gutter) rolling on it, licking it, smooching up to it, generally adoring this poor small turnip. I called those of my family that were still awake in to witness, just in case they thought I was exaggerating, so we all stood around and watched him with his beloved. it lasted a good 15 minutes before he even showed any signs of stopping The weird thing was next morning he came in and did the same thing, pure adoration. Strange, strange cat. Needless to say that the turnip did not go into the soup and after I photographed it I binned it, ewww, cat lick all over it. so there you have it, the tale of mismatched love. does any one else's cat love turnips or nay other vegetable for that matter, mmm I wonder?
The turnip
+ the cat
=love
